So, I decided to give the scanner a try. I was pleasantly confirmed that I made the right choice. It does have problems recognizing hand written cards and fancy font - which is good for me to know about my own business cards, however, it's real easy to fix when adding notes about my new business associates. Overall, I really like my scanner, I found the whole system easy to install, the program user friendly, and the set up quick to start scanning - about 5 - 10 minutes. I was able to scan 50 cards, add notes and edit recognition issues within minutes - about 15. It has a slot that is about 4 inches wide so it would probably not be very useful for scanning much else. It does a pretty good job of scanning cards - the software that comes with the scanner is dedicated to business card scanning and keeps an image of the business card as well as doing OCR and assigning the recognized text to various fields (name, position, address, etc.). It only does a fair job of getting the data off the card but it is fairly easy to edit the OCR and reassign the fields. A nice feature is that it can scan in various languages - if the right language is selected it does a better job of getting the field identification right (because addresses are formatted differently in differnt countires). The software can sync with Outlook - which includes adding an image of the business card to the Notes field. Compared with other business card scanners, this seems to be good value.
